Bulk Microfiber Towels: Fibre Blend, GSM, Pile and Edge Checklist

An industrial and distributor buying guide to polyester-only versus polyester/polyamide microfiber towels, GSM, knit and pile structure, edge finish and sample approval.

Bulk Microfiber Towels: Fibre Blend, GSM, Pile and Edge Checklist

Two microfiber towels can look similar in a catalogue yet behave differently in a cleaning task. The fibre blend, knit construction, pile height, weight, cut edge and finishing requirements need to be specified before a distributor or industrial buyer commits to repeat orders.

This article provides a practical request-for-quotation checklist rather than claiming that one fibre combination performs best in every application.

1. Start with the surface and cleaning task

Tell the supplier whether the towel will be used on glass, painted surfaces, equipment panels, automotive trim or general industrial workstations. A towel selected for routine cleaning may not be appropriate for scratch-sensitive parts, precision manufacturing or controlled environments without additional validation.

Also clarify whether the towel will be reused and washed, and whether oil, water or a specified cleaning chemistry is involved.

2. Polyester-only is not the same as polyester/polyamide

JETESO’s polyester microfiber towel and polyester/polyamide dual-pile towel represent different material choices.

  • Polyester-only: confirm the actual polyester composition and knit or weave construction for the selected towel.
  • Polyester/polyamide: confirm the supplier’s specific fibre ratio and the construction of the chosen grade.
  • Material verification: where composition is contract-critical, use the agreed sample and appropriate documentation or testing.

Do not assume all products described as microfiber are equivalent, or that a towel is suitable for a cleanroom solely because its fibres are fine.

3. GSM is a specification, not a performance guarantee

GSM is grams per square metre. It helps describe material weight, but does not independently establish absorption, softness, durability or scratch safety.

When requesting an industrial sample, specify a target GSM or acceptable range and then evaluate the real task. If choosing a thicker microfiber towel, confirm whether its pile and construction are compatible with the surface, not only whether it feels heavier.

4. Confirm pile and construction

Microfiber towels may have different pile heights and production structures. High/low pile, standard knitted and heavier variants have distinct handling and surface-contact characteristics.

In the quotation, request:

  • Polyester or polyester/polyamide fibre composition
  • Knit or weave construction and pile format
  • GSM and thickness description, where required
  • Size, colour and dimensional tolerance
  • Edge format: overlocked, bound, edgeless or another agreed finish
  • Packaging, labelling and carton configuration

Not every finish is available on every towel construction; confirm the actual product grade.

5. Assess the towel with an approved sample

Compare samples on the surface and liquid involved in your own application. If the towel will be repeatedly washed, evaluate the agreed wash process and how the material behaves after reuse. For sensitive finishes, assess lint and surface contact with appropriate testing.

Record the approved sample and the specification version. This gives both the buyer and supplier a clear reference for repeat purchasing.

6. Compare price against practical use

A cheaper or heavier towel is not automatically a better choice. Assess the cost per completed cleaning task together with surface compatibility, useful life, packing efficiency and replenishment needs.

Example: compare two real microfiber buying routes

JETESO's microfiber range is coordinated through selected partner production and sourcing, so the chosen construction and actual sample should be confirmed rather than treating every microfiber towel as an in-house manufactured standard item.

  • Polyester-only microfiber: ask for the polyester content, knit construction, pile height, GSM, size and edge treatment. This is the starting route for buyers specifying a polyester-only towel.
  • Polyester/polyamide high-low pile: separately confirm both fibre percentages, the dual-pile structure, target GSM, size and any special edge or packing requirement. It is not interchangeable with a polyester-only towel without approval.
  • Thicker microfiber options: define the intended GSM or acceptable range, then compare absorption and surface contact under the same real cleaning task. A higher number alone does not establish better performance.

A useful RFQ could request "polyester microfiber towel, 40 × 40 cm, specified GSM range and edge finish, approved colour and carton packing, for industrial equipment cleaning." Another could request a polyester/polyamide dual-pile version for surface-care comparison. Both should be checked with their actual samples, and the final available size and weight must be agreed with the supply partner.

Use product photographs to verify the approved microfiber grade

Buyers can request photographs of the whole polyester-only towel and its edge, the high-low pile construction of the polyester/polyamide towel, and the packing format proposed for the order. Side-by-side samples are most useful when each one is labelled with verified material composition, GSM and size.

A photo alone does not establish the fibre percentage, weight or approved edge treatment. Record these in the agreed product specification and, where essential, verify them on the selected sample.

What to include in a bulk microfiber RFQ

Send the intended application, required fibre composition, target GSM, pile structure, size, edge format, packaging, order volume and shipping destination. JETESO can review a coordinated supply option and confirm availability against samples and order requirements.
